What Are Implant Dentures?

An implant denture is made up of a traditional denture base and teeth, dental implants that are surgically placed below the gumline, and abutment pieces that connect the denture to the implants. Technically, there are two types of implant dentures, and the option that’s best for you will depend on your needs and preferences.
Fixed/Permanent Implant Dentures
These are designed to stay in your mouth 24/7. Only a qualified implant dentist will be able to remove your restoration. Many patients appreciate the convenience of fixed/permanent implant dentures, but they may not be suitable for patients with significant jawbone loss.
Removable Implant Dentures
As the name suggests, these can be removed at your convenience. They require slightly more maintenance because they must be taken out of your mouth to be cleaned, but removable implant dentures require fewer dental implants and are great for patients with significant jawbone loss.
The Implant Denture Process

First, we’ll confirm your smile goals, oral needs, and overall treatment plan during a consultation. Then we’ll surgically place the dental implants at key locations along your jawbone, right in our own office. After the implants and bone fuse together (which can take six months on average), we’ll have you come back so we can connect your customized denture to your implants.
Am I a Candidate for Implant Dentures?

Implant dentures work best for patients who are missing an entire arch of teeth. While oral health conditions like gum disease and jawbone loss can cause complications, we can often take care of these issues with preliminary treatments. Gum disease therapy and bone grafting are some of the most common ones.
Overall, the best way to find out whether you’re a good candidate for implant dentures is to schedule a consultation!
